The National Bureau of Standards erected a radio tower and radio houses to develop navigational aids that would enable pilots to fly "blind", meaning without good visibility. They were based here between 1928-1931.

Blimps were a common site at College Park's airshows. Here, the Wonderbread Blimp flies over a hangar and the balloon tower which housed a World War One-era hot air balloon used for weather reports.
